How to remove Spyware Quake

After digging through Google, reading forums advocating all sorts of bizarre and long winded ideas, there is only one way I could remove Spyware Quake: by downloading Ewido anti-malware, software from the same people who write AVG. Effect a full scan then a memory scan as chances are there will be multiple related bugs with Spyware Quake as well. Its a 14 day free trial then you pay after that, but I’m so impressed with it that I’m seriously tossing up paying the $30 US to continue to use it, particularly as it runs all the time like Virus Protection does.

Only thing I don’t like about it: it keeps telling me my Alexa Toolbar install is malware. Not sure why, but its a little annoying.

We have seen this piece of cr*ap more than a dozen times in the past week in our service center. SpywareQuake is a new variant of the SpyFalcon and SpySherriff infections. I think a new variant has been released because all of a sudden customers started reporting that our free online removal tutorial stopped working. It seems that three new files have been appearing on the hard drives we have looked at. The files are all located in the System32 folder and they are msvcp71.dll, msvcr71.dll, and stdole3.tlb.

We have updated our tutorial at http://www.schrockinnovations.com/removespywarequake.php to include these files, and now it seems to be working again. If anyone knows about a completely automated (and free) tool to remove this, post about it because it would save me a boatload of time.

    Sincerely,

I ran spybot, and adaware, as well as the latest free version of AVG. It got rid of everything. Only one strange thing, now when my system starts up, it displays the contents of the sys32 directory. Any idea why, or how to stop that from occuring?
