  • A Captcha that tells the truth

Sorry to Trevor Cook on this one, because this Captcha comes from his blog, but it sort of says it all about Captcha’s for me 🙂

    yuc

Yep, Captcha’s are yuck…particularly to vision impared bloggers and even people like me with 20/20 vision who hate them as well.

  • Digg profiles for sale…hmmm

Techcrunch reports that a Top 100 Digg profile is up for sale on eBay here…current bidding at the time of writing was $305USD with 6 1/2 days left on the auction. So much for all those people who said that these profiles and position weren’t worth diddly squat..question is though, if you buy the profile does that qualify you as a potential applicant for a Netscape gig?

  • Mike Arrington joins Bastard of the Blogs

I honestly like Mike Arrington, but some of his more recent behaviour, in particular the dummy spit in relation to Nick Carr, sort of means this honour is probably well deserved:

  • Doesn’t the US have the first amendment?

    WTF? from ZDNet:

Web sites like Amazon.com and MySpace.com may soon be inaccessible for many people using public terminals at American schools and libraries, thanks to the U.S. House of Representatives.

By a 410-15 vote on Thursday, politicians approved a bill that would effectively require that “chat rooms” and “social networking sites” be rendered inaccessible to minors, an age group that includes some of the Internet’s most ardent users. Adults can ask for permission to access the sites. …

Even though politicians apparently meant to restrict access to MySpace, the definition of off-limits Web sites is so broad the bill would probably sweep in thousands of commercial Web sites that allow people to post profiles, include personal information and allow “communication among users.” Details will be left up to the Federal Communications Commission.

The list could include Slashdot, which permits public profiles; Amazon, which allows author profiles and personal lists; and blogs like RedState.com that show public profiles. In addition, many media companies, such as News.com publisher CNET Networks, permit users to create profiles of favorite games and music.

Great, even the one country in the world that we all once championed as the great bastion of free speech is now going to ban Amazon from public libraries….of course I could make some statement about tossing the incumbents out of power, but look at the vote: seems like the Democrats support this tripe as well. Big Brother is here and now, and taking over the Western World. Orwell was just 30-40 years out with his year.

  • Something wrong with this

Google Watch reports on Google happily handing over details to the FBI on an email sent via a nutter to the NACAP. I cant’ quite put my finger on this but something is wrong with this. Isn’t this the same Google that refused to comply with similar requests when the American Government was looking for terrorist activities? And as much as there is little argument on the fact that the email is “hate speech”, is sending people for sending stupid emails an offence in which people should be jailed? After all, I get stupid emails all the time…yikes, if I could get these people all sent to jail there’d be some bloody full jails out there.

    Food for thought.

  • Sheep make their New Zealand film debut

I just can’t stop laughing….(via The Courier Mail)

A HORROR comedy about killer sheep made in New Zealand and distributed by an Australian company will premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September.

“When a reckless genetic engineering experiment goes horribly wrong, a flock of innocent sheep accidentally transforms into a pack of blood-thirsty killers,” festival notes say.

Special effects in the film, Black Sheep, were created by the Weta Workshop of Kiwi filmmaker Peter Jackson, who started out making low-budget horror comedies.

Funding was from the NZ Film Commission and South Korea’s Daesung Group.

    Hewe appropriate 🙂

  • Will Cyworld take the English speaking world by storm

If you haven’t heard of Cyworld yet, it’s basically the South Korean version of MySpace, sort of Blogging come social networking (although I’d note it’s more blog like that MySpace)…and it’s come to America with the launch of an English speaking version. GigaOM has more, but off the top of my head from the days I use to do these figures for the Blog Herald, it has something like 30 million users in South Korea, and even more in other Asian countries as well….basically it’s bloody huge, question is: will it take off in the English speaking world? At this stage I’d put money on it, this is huge already and it’s going to get bigger. Look out MySpace 🙂

Check out the new US version here.

  • Beware of Falling Dogs

    Bizarre, from News.com.au:

A MAN was bruised but alive after a Saint Bernard dog thrown out a two-storey window landed on him as he was walking down the street in the southern-Polish city of Sosnowiec.
The 50kg dog was pushed out of the window by its drunken owner on Monday, police said.

“The dog had a soft landing because it fell on a man,” said police spokesman Grzegorz Wierzbicki.

“The dog escaped with just a few scratches.”

“The man was also more in a psychological state of shock than physically hurt.”
