Has Chartreuse finally gone to far?

Chartreuse Reloaded is finally up. The pdf info sheet linked to on the site states there’s going to be a $9.95 monthly charge for membership, although I take it some of the “cool” kids will probably get a free pass. I wrote last week that their were no rules, and I suppose if anyone could pull this off it would be Char, but past history with sites that charge a membership fee is pretty poor, who doesn’t remember the failures of sites such as Slate and others trying to charge for access. Indeed, if there is one rule, it should be free = good. Now having said that I know of a couple of forums that provide a wealth of information that is worth charging for, but access to a blog? I’ll sit on the fence for now 🙂

    I dont know.. I cannot possibly imagine myself paying to read a blog. I don’t even like websites where I have to go through a free registration process to read – the idea of paying to read something online is beyond me.

    Allow me to splog. As soon as I saw it, I tried to answer the new site with a (semi) Char styled entry using some of the arguments he, the hotlinker :D, always fights.

    But the more I think about, I must admit I might be one of those probably few who’ll run the risk and pay. Sure I am not cool enough for the prince a free pass. 😀

    I think he absolutely has gone too far and we’ll all have a blast watching how it develops. 🙂

    No matter what happens, stagnation is death. I personally think $10 a month is awfully cheap to see how something like this plays out in real time.
