  • Down but not out

My many thanks to everyone who let me know that duncanriley.com was down. It’s not b5 related, I promise, and u can all take that with my personal I don’t lie certification. It’s just after 7pm US EST time as I’m writing this, but just 4 possibly the first time in my life, I’m actuallly at that time zone. It would appear that with the traffic spike, duncanriley.com being on my personal box, that it went down for a while. My side projects, people I know who have projects etc….that’s the box I’m on, it’s been like that for 12 months, although this site was only on there previously. I will at this stage add something of substance: f*ck, I’m really not famous. When I’m talking to Prince and he’s telling me that ppl signed up to The Blogging Times because I did. That’s nut’s. For the mad few of you who care what I write….Struth. If you want to insert Steve Irwin there go for it. Because to me it’s so Bizarre. When I startered blogging I did it because I liked blogging, and that’s the honest to god truth. There was never an alteramotive. Ever. That some people out there treat me as a minor celebrity……..OMG! To every one though who is ready this. There is as always one thing I would ask: if I ever get so far up myself, so self obsessed. For the love of god tell me. It’s easy to get out of control, and yet it’s harder to remember where you’ve come from.

  • New York, New York

Perhaps it’s because I’m tired, perhaps it’s the sore back (:-)), but I keep getting this strange feeling….a feeling to dance down the street signing “New York, New York” as Sinatra did in the 1940-50ish musical which at this stage I cant seem to remember, but for lovers of musicals you’ll know the one, Sintra, possibly Dean as sailors in NY during WW2. They were right, New York, New York is a wonderful town. Not cheap, but mindblowingly big….it just seems to go on forever. Loren informes me that theres something like 14 million people and another 6 million nereby, essentially the entire population of Australia. I’ve got a couple more days (leave Monday) and I’m looking forward to exploring some more. The WTC was quite moving, Madisson Square Garden, Broadway (I’m seriously thinking about a ticket to Spamalot…but not cheap). OK, enough for now, when she who must be obeyed gets up in the morning this post is only going to make her jealous. More soon. Oh yeh, nearly forgot, I’ve got no comment on b5 at the moment.

  • I’m alive, just.

On a computer again for the first time in 3-4 days, I say 3-4 because I’m not quite sure what day it is. The flight from Hong Kong to Toronto via Anchorage was, without doubt, the single worst flight of my life. It’s also the first time in my entire life I’ve thrown up on a plane…or as the case was all over the entire toilet + a good portion of myself as well…I think the vomit was flying up and down with the plane. Cathay Pacific is excellent, great food, efficent service…and most importantly it’s not Qantas, but the turbulance North of Japan…maybe 3 to 4 hours worth, straight after dinner…it just went on and on and on. Worse thing, a bit like with a boat, I usually don’t suffer so much at the time, but on the land…land sickness. Slightly recovered now and off to New York tomorrow. I won’t share my thoughts about Toronto until I get back home, but suffice to say it may have been more enjoyable under different circumstances. But time to go now, the wounds in my back are twitching and I’ll got to go and sign some papers. Till NY, aurevoir…

PS: This might sound strange but it was actually easier to communicate with people in Hong Kong than Canada. Trying to do the simplest things here is quite frustrating. Canadian’s may have kept some good things from their English heritage, but the use of the English language wasn’t one of them 🙂

  • Web 2.0 irony

News Corp. Looking At BubbleShare: Techcrunch.

If it wasn’t a bubble before, it looks like it might be with this deal 🙂

  • Don’t believe in free markets? Visit Hong Kong

I’m standing here typing this in the Departures lounge at Hong Kong Airport. One word to say about about Hong Kong:
    F*ck!
Free markets not only work, they rock. I only wish I wasn’t about to hop on another plane to North America. Absolutely mind blowing amazing. My only gripe, the main shops don’t open to late on Sundays. Can’t ein em all. I’ll be back here in nearly 2 weeks, maybe less if I can juggle it. The clocks ticking on the paid internet booth so time to go, but HK: recommended.

  • Going to TechCrunch NY again

If you’re reading this post I’m dead….sorry, wrong intro, I’m not Pauline Hanson (Australian joke).

If you’re reading this post I’m on my way to North America via Hong Kong, and the good news is that I’ll be able to go to the TechCrunch Party in New York again. I’ll also probably spend a couple of days in New York playing tourist, so happy to say g’day to people, or even do some video blogging or podcasting as well.

  • PayPerPost plus?

Steve Rubel points to LoudLaunch, yet another PayPerPost competitor (how many have their been lately??), although it would appear that the relationship might be pre-blog as opposed to post-blog: ie, you start up a blog on a topic with an advertiser behind you. Sounds like a solid idea, but it will be interesting to see what sort of dollars we’re talking about.

  • Checking out AzoogleAds

Ive just got my acceptance email through for AzoogleAds (aff). Admitedly, I did have to jump through some hoops, and I’ve got to post some stuff to Canada as well to later recieve a payment (I’ll probably hold off till Monday, then I can post it locally :-)). I’ve heard some really good word of mouth for these guys lately, and whilst I’ve got accounts at various affiliate and advertising sites, I don’t recall having used them previously. First impressions, without having actually starting using some of the offers yet, is all positive. Easy to use interface and quick, unlike CJ in particular. With the advertisers offers there’s no xyz% or average payout type rubbish, you get a clear figure of the return you’ll get on a CPA basis. They’ve got a reasonable range of advertisers, it’s by no means the largest but it’s decent, various offers, with a strong range of ringtone sites in particular. I’ll report back in a couple of weeks once I’ve given a few of the offers a test run, but so far, so good.

  • TLA Acquired by MediaWhiz

Congrats to the crew at Text Link Ads on being acquired by MediaWhiz. Like a lot of people I hadn’t heard of MediaWhiz before today, so I’ve got no idea what to expect. But I will say this to the new owners: TLA does a brilliant job with what it does, don’t mess with it too much. Suggestions of email marketing, CPA offers, CPM display ads may sound good on paper, but we all use TLA for text link sales, just don’t mess with a good thing too much, please? 🙂

  • Britney Spears getting divorced

I’m not longer writing a Britney Spear site for a blog network, but I always knew that this would eventually happen:
