  • If Chris Pirillo was female, wouldn’t this be porn

Chris Pirillo has launched Rent My Chest 2.0 (via Blogebrity), but I ask this serious question: if Chris was female wouldn’t this be porn, after all, Chris has a reasonable set of man boobs here, indeed, I think his…features..are bigger than Keira Knightley’s (sorry Chris, but I’ve got to say, shame about the fez…), although I’d note from earlier shots that his breasts are actually a little smaller now…sure, I’m no China painting myself, but man boobs for me were very much 2002 (and about 35kg ago), not 2006. But I suppose on a more serious note, Chris continues to push the boundaries, and that’s why we all love him, right…man boobs aside 🙂

  • comScore, Techcrunch ignore Skype as an IM

Interesting post over at Techcrunch today on the latest IM usage figures…but both the figures from comScore, and Techcrunch themselves totally ignore one IM client: and that’s Skype.

I use Skype as my IM client, and so do most people I know. Why, well first and foremost everyone actually uses their real names: makes it a whole lot easier communicating with people when you know who you’re instant messaging with, + obviously the voice functionality, although most other clients provide this as well, it’s just that Skype is the default for voice for most people these days, at least in the blogging/ Web 2.0 field.

But I digress: you can’t have a serious analysis of IM without include Skype in those figures. I’d be interested to here if other people use Skype in the same way as I do…I may be a little biased because it’s become a defacto communications system for b5media, but still…it’s a great IM app.

  • Is Google an AdWords Hypocrite?

Threadwatch points to this story at eWeek suggesting that Google is an Adwords Hypocrite with its new deal with GoDaddy for parked domain “landing pages”…and suffice to say I agree with the conclusion, on one hand Google is cracking down on poor quality landing pages (which I don’t think alone is a particularly bad thing) but on the other hand it’s facilitating junk pages with GoDaddy. It basically says: have crap pages as long as we host them. Of concern also from the eWeek article: the changes may promote scraper sites as webmasters try to make their landing pages more Adwords friendly…great, Google’s actions are promoting more spam blogs…wonderful.

  • Where to live in Sydney?

I won’t go into the personal side of this, but I’m tossing up moving back to Sydney in the next couple of months. It’s the town I grew up in, but a town I left at the age of 21. For those of you outside of Australia, Sydney is as close as we get in Australia to New York, it’s a big city, indeed massive in size, it’s area is bigger (so I one heard) than great London, and from other reports its in the biggest cities on the planet, can’t remember whether it’s top 10 of top 20, but I often see it in the top 10. Population is something like 4.5 million people, and if you go out a little further still, add at least 1 million to that..but being an Australian city a lot of it is suburban sprawl, kilometers upon kms of houses as far as the eye can see really, as a now outsider I still find it amazing that Sydneysiders live in places like Camden and Richmond, when I was a kid these were country towns! but having said that I can remember when I worked in the CBD at Bankers Trust (or wankers trust as many employees use to call it) and I can remember being shocked (as were others) that some of my work colleagues commuted from places such as Wollongong and the Central Coast! And some people thought my Shire trip was long!

The interesting thing for me, is that I was raised a Shire boy. Spent 18 of my 21 years growing up in the Sutherland Shire. I can still remember it well, it was a wonderful place to grow up… but do I want to live there again? when I was still in Sydney, I spent a little time staying with friends in places such as Lane Cove, which was cool, and other places on the North Shore, as well as some inner West places. Question is, where to move to if I move back to Sydney? I’m thinking CBD/ Redfern/ Newtown and that sort of area, just so I’m close to everything (and of course so I can finally set up a blog meetup in Sydney!). Any Sydneysiders care to share their thoughts?

  • Blogs you should consider reading (particularly if you’re in to blogs and Web 2.0)

I’ve got an admission to make, in the last couple of months I’ve been adding to my Bloglines subs, even though I swore I would actually decrease the number…and whilst on one hand I have unsubscribed from a few sites….the number I subscribed to has actually been creping up again. Sure, I’ve only gotten out to 135 feeds (as of today), but its above my sworn figure of 100. But saying all of this, I’d like to share a couple of sites I’ve added in the last 6 months that you might like to consider:

The Blog Herald: yep, when I sold the site, I actually unsubscribed, indeed, I actually couldn’t face reading it for quite some time after I sold it, it was really that hard for me, having been my baby for so long, it just upset me too much. Theres been a bit of criticism in the last couple of months as to the direction of The Blog Herald, but I’m happy to say that no only have I resubscribed to the Blog Herald feed, I’m really enjoying it again. Matt and Aaron are doing a great job…maybe a little more news stories perhaps, and to be honest I’m still not totally convinced with the design…but as a read it’s once again hit its highs.

The Blogging Times: this site presents like I once imagined the Blog Herald would look like, it’s a mix of Web 2.0 and blog posts, and mainly just plain news. It’s not always the most exciting read, but it’s factual, and if you are interested in the news of the day (blog wise) its a good read.

The Blogging Journalist: a bit like the Blogging Times, a mix of blog and web 2.0 stories, with an interesting mix of how bloggers are reporting world news. You don’t get much comment here, but as a pure coverage of blog news it’s pretty good.

SEO BlackHat Blog: ok, admission here is that I’ve been reading Quadszilla longer than 6 months, he’s a great bloke, sure, we might not operate on the same field, but he’s open and honest about what he does, and believe it or not we actually have a fair bit in common in terms of beliefs (particularly freedom of speech issues). He’s the sort of guy I’d happily share a beer or 3 (or 10) with if I ever get State Side. If you ever wanted to read what the “otherside” does, you cant go pass this blog.

Blogebrity: I seriously considered dropping these guys, but today they are back again and firing. They are still a little exclusively A-List obsessed, but a good read once again.

Bryanboy: ok, this so doesn’t fit onto this list, but I loves me some Bryanboy! The Philippines gayest of gay bloggers is always entertaining, I’m not sure why I like it, but I do!

  • WIN launches Second Life Insider

Very, very cool, for a SL fan like me: Second Life Insider. Now if only I could find time to get onto SL more than once or twice a week!!!

  • Andy Merrett on Problogger

Andy has gone pro, and has some great, and very true reflections on what it’s like to blog for a living, I won’t repeat them all, you can read the list here, but my favourite:

Time vanishes. It just goes. You?ɬ¢?¢‚Äö¬¨?¢‚Äû¬¢re up early and working, and before you know it, it?ɬ¢?¢‚Äö¬¨?¢‚Äû¬¢s early evening.

My story every day. Its 9:30am. I blink, it’s 4pm.

  • Blogebrity hits the spot

Saw this story at Techcrunch the other day and it did register as being odd, but the Blogebrity team sum it up well…and BTW, it’s great to see Blogebrity back and firing regularly as well…now if only they’d expand their coverage a little bit wider…
