  • Old people are homophobic…what a surprise

Younger voters show strongest support for same-sex unions (SMH):

NEARLY 50 per cent of Australians support the Australian Capital Territory’s attempts to formalise same-sex relationships, an ACNielsen poll has found….The new poll found 45 per cent of those surveyed supported the ACT laws and 34 per cent opposed them. Younger people were more likely to support the territory’s move. Fifty-six per cent of those aged 18 to 39 said they were in favour of the territory’s legislation. Support fell to 48 per cent of those aged 40 to 54 and to 29 per cent of people aged 55 and older.

I’d say when are this people going to grow up…but they have already, long live the youth of our country.

  • Australian soldier shot himself whilst making gay jokes?

    I suppose it’s a sign that homophobia isn’t allowed…but I suppose death is a bit harsh..

Gay song joke link to Kovco death (SMH)

Private Jacob Kovco could have killed himself while joking around with his pistol, an inquiry heard today….”The song we were singing was in a female, homosexual way…(It was) almost to say this is so gay I would rather be dead.”

  • Dave Winer rallies against Feedburner extra’s

First time I’ve seen this: Dave Winer has posted he’s dropping feeds that include the Feedburner extra’s such as “email this” and “add to de.licio.us” which he calls “feeds of evil”. Personally, I don’t use Feedburner because I’m not willing to give up control of my feed….but I’ve never though of it in terms that some people find the bits underneath annoying….something new for a Monday, any way 🙂

  • Why it’s getting hard to get out of bed!

This from the official Bunbury weather station yesterday (Saturday), which is actually closer to the sea than I am!

    cold

the first column after the time is the official temp (in celcius) the next is the dewpoint temp. A record apparently for the coldest ever day!

  • A blast from the past!

The year was 1998, and this from my old friend Laura (who is in teh middle of the pic), can you guess who is me?! 🙂 I’ll give a clue, I had hair then!

  • Where else to live

If the day should come, that I’d needed to live elsewhere, I’ve been wondering where I should go. Aside from living in WA, this is my short list. Overseas really isn’t a consideration, besides the fact I still don’t hold a current passport, I still can’t see my self living in another country, unless some one pays me a sh*t load of money. So the picks:

    1. Byron Bay
    2. Gold Coast
    3. Sydney

Byron is at the top because despite the fact that it’s been 10 years since I’ve been there, it’s still the only time in my entire life that I found harmony. Harmony in terms of relaxation, if only for a short time. Byron is amazing, but it would be an expensive town to buy into. Maybe Nimbin or somewhere close by? who knows.

I was never a big fan of the Gold Coast until I went there on my recent holdiay. Sure, I love the fact that the shops are open till 9pm…but it had a nice vibe, and I know people there.

Sydney, my home town, and I know a pile of people there. The question of course with Sydney is where to live in Sydney, a city of some 4 million + (maybe more) people. I’m a Shire boy, and would I return to the Shire, who knows. I spent some time many years ago with a friend who was living on the North Shore, Lane Cove to be precise, and the proximety to town was very, very nice. Maybe….

  • God help me, Lindsay Lohan might be attractive.

Ok, I admit, I’ve never been a big Lindsay Lohan fan, but this pic from Arieanna’s always excellent Lindsay Lohan blog makes me think twice!

  • The Cowboy returns

I’m happy to note that David Krug, aka The Cowboy, has returned with a decent blog worth reading: PRblogging.com. Early days yet but I smell that the old cowboy might be back!

  • Issues at 9rules?

This from a former 9rules Channel editor:

I left 9rules because I can’t associate my writing and my faith with an organization wherein the leaders are purposely building their personas around vulgar and demeaning antics. ScrivsTyme is just too closely related to 9rules. I know, “to each their own.” I agree 100%. I’m just choosing not to associate my life’s work to “another’s own.” This is the number one reason I left. There are others, such as traffic, purpose, and benefit. I will avoid going into those as they are not the main reason. I love the crew, but I simply don’t agree with the direction. I own that as my own problem and wish them all nothing but the best.

This speaks for itself, so I won’t add any comments.

  • Sea levels are decreasing….anyone for an Ice Age?

    This from the BBC:

Arctic sea level has been falling by a little over 2mm a year – a movement that sets the region against the global trend of rising waters.

So this whole Greenhouse thing doesn’t stack up again…hmmm, interesting.

    This comment at Slashdot:

The arctic icepack is melting at an accelerated rate, due to global warming. Once the ice is gone, it is no longer displacing so much water, and so sea levels drop.

Hmmmm….say no more, other than to note this interesting fact: Australia, despite not being a signatory to the Kyoto treaty, will be the ONLY country on the planet to meet it’s Kyoto targets by 2010. 🙂
