There’s a difference between the “status symbol” characteristic of the phones in the early 1980s and the phones of today. In 1981, I wasn’t even aware of mobile phones – they didn’t enter my consciousness until the late 1980s, and I wouldn’t even conceive of owning one myself until the mid-to-late 1990s. Obviously the market penetration has gone up since those days, and now we’re just engaged in religous wars regarding which phone platform is the best.
But if a guy in a suit tells me to consider platforms other than the iPhone, I listen. 🙂
